Hi, My name is Daniela Zarichta, and I am going to describe in this short work the inside and outside circulation characteristics of the Salt Lake City Library.
The approach to the Salt Lake City Library is represented by a long path surrounded by grass, giving an impression of space and relation with the environment. Form this point of view, the library building looks magnificent, because of the size and the shape of the entire structure.
This external frontal approach path conduces directly to the entrance of the Salt lake City Library Square. This square is a point of converging traffic of other entrances, and its big size gives a sensation of space, to allow a broad and direct circulation.
The entrance to the library building conduces to a very big and open hall. This hall divides the library in two wings. The hall has a very long and broad corridor, expressing the directness of the circulation inside the building, allowing a fast access to all the secondary rooms.
The two wings of the buildings have many stairs and a lift system, to allow the vertical circulation of the people between all the levels in the structure. The aesthetic and modern appearance of both the stairs and the lift system in the hall defines the big architectural value of the library building. Also, the building has an external stair which conduces to the library square.
The horizontal circulation inside the building is defined by a big quantity of long and direct corridors, whit the hall space representing the boundaries. These long parallel corridors are connected in some places by transversal bridges, that cross above the hall.
The Salt Lake City Library is a very beautiful building, which combines a modern aesthetic with a functional design. The paths and corridors are very direct, for a good horizontal circulation, and the stairs and lift systems located at the center of the hall permit an easy vertical circulation
